Felting as an example of our Craftwork

There are many different stages to felt making starting with preparing the raw fleece, removing dirt, washing, teasing and carding the wool.

The felted pieces are then sewn, decorated, and made into many beautiful items such as wall-hangings, bags, cushions, dolls, slippers and a few years ago we felted our own yurt.

The process involves warm soapy water being added to the carded wool that is laid in criss-cross layers...

Then with our hands we move rhythmically over the surface, which interlocks the wool fibres and the felt piece is then rolled in a cane blind then laid out flat to dry.

The World-Famous Corbenic Yurt

Click on the yurt to marvel at the intricate Corbenic craftwork and skills.

Our resident's devoted hours and hours of work to its creation. Helped by the co-workers and workshop leader of course...

Hundreds of children, residents, adults too, have sat enthralled in the Corbenic Yurt listening to stories of strange and wonderful far-off places...

Our new craft and estate workshop buildings was opened on September 11th 2009.

So, hopefully by Spring 2009, we will have a bright, spacious new crafts area in which to work....
