THE HURRICANE: December 8th 2011

The Estate Team augmented by co-workers, residents, volunteers were involved in a massive clear up after the great storm on Thursday, December 8th..

Hurricane-force winds, unprecedented in living memory blew in from the west.

In all,we lost around 60 mature trees.

Humour in the faceof adversity
Our main drive was blocked and power supplies were down for a couple of days. A further storm a few days later rooted out some more trees.

Happily,no injuries and no real structural damage was done to the fabric of any of our buildings.

Storm Windfall for Corbenic

It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good..

The storms of December 2011 and January 2012 will live long in our memory.

But at least we will have a good supply of fuel for our wood-burning stoves for months to come...

Footnote on storms: Late January 2012

Corbenic has experienced yet another big storm in early January. Sadly,we lost a few more trees weakened by the previous high winds. Clearing up has been a major task for the estate team which has performed minor miracles in keeping all the tracks clear and bringing order back from the chaos caused by this extraordinary spell of wild weather.

The Corbenic Advent Market

Crowds came out in great numbers. It was a very successful day. And the weather was kind this year. No blizzards as in 2010!
