The Corbenic Advent Market

Crowds came out in great numbers. It was a very successful day. And the weather was kind this year. No blizzards as in 2010!

2010 2009

Monday 14th March 2011, Corbenic Hall

Robin Colvill, Celebrated Concert Pianist

Brilliantly played a selection of music including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Gershwin.

Residents, staff and guests were treated to a virtuoso performance from a spell-binding artist at the height of his powers.

Almost as entertaining as the music was Robin's stories surrounding the great composers and the way they fashioned each piece...

Robin was not allowed to leave until the residents got an encore....

Music and Storytelling
in Yurt with Claire Hewitt

Seasons
in craft workshop with Monica Hand

'Apples'
in the garden workshop with Jenna Dunlop

'Wood and Fire'
on the estate with Martin Reilly

Guest Speaker Trudi Nicol spoke eloquently about transitions - and invited members and residents of Camphill and Garvald communities to share their own experiences - moving home, the transition between childhood and adulthood, changing jobs...

Martin's workshop looked at different local  trees.
Delegates then examined Martin's dramatic sculpture before
using fire to char the wood and turn the surface to carbon. Preservative was applied, and it was treated with linseed oil to prolong its life in the open air.

Monica explained the arts of felted wall hangings using different seasonal colours using them to  transform them into works of artistic beauty.

In her garden workshop Jenna talked about the transitions the food we eat goes through; apples seeds were planted in the orchard, then apple juice was pressed and drank with relish. Clare, using the yurt transformed the atmosphere by telling stories and singing songs, as she and her group transitioned between the real world and the world of enchantment and imagination.

International Meal, June 13, 2011

Corbenic hosts people from many nationalities and cultures.

The International Meal is part of our Whitsun celebrations, the festival where the singularity of each individual is deemed to be sacred, but where we are also all part of human kind and in that sense are one.

.

So, a vast array of delicious dishes from all over the world were prepared, cooked,  enjoyed, savoured.

We had great musical and dramatic performances from all the different nationality groups in the community.

Remember the bible story of the flames hovering over the heads of the disciples?
Though we speak different languages, the meal symbolises humanity coming together, learning more about each other, our culinary roots, origins, thereby giving us a better understanding of each other...
