From Christmas past

 Our Festivals Calendar
at Corbenic Camphill Community

In the coming months of 2011, we will profile Corbenic's Festival Year
 which follows the Christian calendar.

The Epiphany or Three Kings' Day marks the final day of Christmas and also celebrates the faithful kings who brought gifts to the manger on that first Christmas night more than 2000 years ago

Three Kings' Day at Corbenic

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Music played, a short reading took place, prayers were said and the biblical narrative of  Three Kings Day was outlined at our afternoon Epiphany service.

Taking down ornaments on January 6 is a European tradition still followed by many people of German, Polish and Czech ancestry.

Today, the lit candles were symbolically doused and the tree was taken down in Corbenic's main hall in Drumour Lodge.

Then residents and co-workers went to take down the trees in each of Corbenic's 5 household.

NATIVITY PLAY,
CHRISTMAS EVE, 2010

Over 20 residents, co-workers and staff acted out an inspiring depiction of the age-old story of the birth of Baby Jesus.

The set, stage, costumes and lighting created a wonderful atmosphere. Weeks of rehearsal paid off. The cast were word-perfect and brilliant. And our three in-house musicians on piano, clarinet and recorder superb.

The actors, major and minor, all delivered their lines in accents reflecting multi-cultural origins. Somehow, this heightened the emotional impact of the drama.

There was no photography, and no applause, nothing that might detract from the sacred nature of  the performance.

For the rapt audience it was a memorable and moving experience.  A dramatic and visual re-construction of the Nativity

Whilst outside on a beautiful starry, starry night the Perthshire hills played the role of snow-bound biblical landscape to perfection.

A wonderful evening. Thanks to all who produced and directed behind the scenes.
On CHRISTMAS DAY, residents, co-workers and staff gathered for prayer at 11 am.

Thereafter, the traditional Christmas meal and the giving of presents took place in each of our 5 households.

From our archive of photos - not the actual party..

On Boxing Day, we let down our hair and celebrated in style with our traditional communal party...
