Workshops are integral to the community life at Corbenic.

Residents
are encouraged to choose their workshops and, when appropriate, move on from one to another thus affording them a varied work experience and opportunities to develop their skills

Workshops are considered an inherent part of the therapeutic process for all residents, and their emphasis is on enhancing the quality of life for all who participate.

The fact that the produce from the workshops contributes to the general life of the community is a further indication of personal worth and fulfilment rather than an end in itself.

At Corbenic work is seen as an important part of people's lives; it helps to develop peoples' full potential and bring out their sense of responsibility and dignity. In close consultation with workshop leaders, residents are able to choose their workshops.

Having chosen them, people are encouraged to remain in that workshop for a certain amount of time in order to develop their skills.

Bakery ~ the bakery produces many types of loaves and provides bread for the whole community.

Residents learn how to bake, how to measure out flour and use the weighing machine. Some of the bread is sold in a local health food store.

Confectionery ~ here residents learn how to bake cakes, make biscuits for tea breaks and fancy goods for festivals and special occasions.

Cookery
~ every house has a morning cookery workshop where residents help in the planning and cooking of the main meal of the day.

Crafts ~ the craft workshop uses a number of different kinds of material, such as silk, wool, card and paper to produce items which are often sold at local events. More about the craft workshop coming soon.

Candle making ~ this workshop makes candles of different shapes and sizes for use in the houses and also for sale to the public.

Estate ~ Corbenic is situated in a very beautiful location in Strathbraan. Its estate comprises over fifty acres of rolling woodland and fields. The Estate work group cuts grass, mends dykes, looks after the trees, trims hedges, keeps paths clear, harvests windfall from the woods and much else besides.

Farm ~ we have a small farm with a number of animals, which are looked after by a team in the farm workshop.

Gardening ~ Corbenic has its own large bio-dynamic garden and residents help in the growing of fruit and vegetables for the whole community.

Laundry ~ although each house has its own laundry facilities, the smooth running of  Corbenic relies on the new, recently refurbished central laundry. This is run by Elizabeth together with the residents.

Woodwork ~ we have a large wood workshop using modern equipment and following strict safety precautions.

The main work is making furniture, household items and repairing broken furniture. There is plenty of work to do ranging from sanding wood to working the machines. Residents work according to their ability and level of safety awareness.
