The Corbenic Community Store provides products needed by houses and workshops. By centralising purchasing, good quality products can be sourced at competitive prices. The purchasing and restocking is the task of one resident helped by his 1:1 support worker. The resident takes great pride in this important role.
Refills help to reduce the environmental impact of the community.
Our biodiverse sewage system at Corbenic is a living system that relies on micro-organisms working 24-7 to breakdown waste. This means we need to be mindful of what cleaning products are used. The wrong cleaning products would kill the micro-organisms and damage our sewer system.
At Corbenic, we are also trying to reduce plastic waste across the whole community.
We have thought carefully about what we products we want to use and how to make them available to houses and workshops.
We have chosen FILLrefill products. These arrive in 20 litre containers on a pallet. These are too heavy to distribute. The Estate workshop team helps unload the pallet into the community store.
Community store team then takes orders from houses and workshops
It is at the delivery phase that the true value of the Community Store is realised. Products need to be delivered to the houses and workshops in manageable amounts. To do this, products are decanted to 5 litre refillable and reusable containers.
Store tasks and deliveries provide meaningful work for 4 residents and one day participant delivering to our 7 houses 9 workshops and day service. In addition to delivering, empty conatiners are collected and reused
The store continues to expand as more products are requested.
Well done to our Corbenic Community Store Team
