Our Community has been a home for people with social, emotional, intellectual and learning disabilities in the heart of Scotland since 1978, providing day and residential care in beautiful surroundings near Dunkeld, Perthshire. One of Care Inspectorate’s reports about Corbenic stated that: “the service does very well in providing a ‘holistic’ approach…this means that it considers all aspects of a person’s life, including physical and mental health, realising potential, promoting independence and promoting choice and dignity.” This approach is at the heart of our ethos and represents what we hope to achieve within our community.
We cover our day to day costs from the money we receive from the local authorities who support these individuals. However, this does not cover major building projects and we need to ask for gifts and grants towards these. The Community Hub will be a central place that will be at the heart of our community, somewhere to be at leisure and which will facilitate the meaningful activities for residents and those attending during the daytime.
Our design team has taken on the ideas generated by the community and created a concept that will contain:
A 150-seating space that in which the community can meet, celebrate and share cultural events amongst themselves and with families and friends
Purpose designed workshops for our bakery, laundry and craft activities
A gathering space/community heart
A structure that enhances the surrounding community and natural beauty
A sustainable and energy efficient design and build
A multi-functional space that will be accessible to our wider local community
We estimate that the overall cost will be around £3,200,000 and have launched an appeal with the intention of starting the building work in July 2020. Any donation, of whatever size, is vital and we will be very grateful for your support.
A heartfelt thank you in advance on behalf of all the residents at Corbenic.
