Nature hints at changing season

It has been a warm summer at Corbenic but as the days shorten, hints of coming autumn are beginning to appear. The purple heather heralds that change.

This morning was noticeably cooler and the early morning mist left its evidence on the spiders’ webs.

The breeze has a fresher feel. After the heavy rain overnight, the views this morning had a clarity and sharpness.

There is much greenery still in evidence, some plants are hinting at the changes ahead. The dock and the nettles have put their energy into seeds, their greenness is waning. The dock is dressed in reds, golds and browns.

The apples in the orchard are ripening. The leaves of one apple tree have already turned. And the bracken is just beginning to turn. Overhead, a red kite is watchful for unwary rabbit, whilst a sparrow hawk darts into the still green birch cover.

Up at the pond, the irises leaves hint at a cooling. The signs are subtle but Autumn is not far away.
