On the Sunday before Easter, Corbenic residents take part in a boundary walk. Well done to all the residents who took part in wet conditions this year. (The photograph was taken after the rain).
During the walk, the boundaries are marked with sticks carrying a symbol of Corbenic – baked bread cockerels and daffodils. This checking the bounds of a community is ancient. Walking the bounds predates Common Ridings, which continue in many Scottish communities. The tradition ensures walls, fences and ditches are secure. It also reaffirms the boundary in the consciousness of the community – “This far and no further”!
At Corbenic, the Poetry Path enables this tradition to continue. And each tradition provides a reassuring touch point for the passing of seasons. In the words of the poem…
“This is the song of time.”
