There are two walking groups at Corbenic
Ramblers do low level, half-day walks on paths
Hillwalkers do full day walks including challenging terrain.
In 2024, the group summited a Munro on two occasions - one near Dalwhinnie (Geal Carn) and two at Glenshee Ski Centre (Carn Aosda and Cairnwell). Certainly achievements, but relatively easy walks on vehicle tracks.

The objectives for 2025 were to develop the participants fitness and confidence in varying walking terrain, along with introducing some of the emergency procedures in non-emergency contexts. So the goal was not to go further and higher but rather develop movement and hillwalking skills. Better movement skills would open new and more stimulating locations for the group to enjoy safely. Familiarity with emergency equipment such as group shelters would prepare participants should the need arise. To achieve this we visited a number of locations for shorter but more technical walks and practiced using the group shelters in a fun way.

In April we, visited Coire an t-Sneachda in the Cairngorms to practice moving through boulder fields. In May we developed scrambling confidence at Deuchary Hill and confidence on narrow paths in the Pass of Killiecrankie. June 2025 was very hot so walks were adjusted to avoid heat-exhaustion but in July conditions were better for adventures. With all at peak fitness, the group visited different mountain tops every week. Where Munros were visited, these were more difficult peaks than those attempted in 2024. The group had improved.
So working on movement skills had a positive effect. Over the year the group summited Munros on ten separate occasions. These more adventurous trips were possible because of improvement in movement skills, greater confidence on steeper terrain and better preparation for if an emergency arose. Increased fitness alone was not enough to make these adventures safe.
