I am so delighted and honoured to join the Corbenic Community Board this summer. Having lived and worked in London and Southeast England for many years, Phillip and I decided to retire and relocate back to Scotland last year which has been amazing. Highland Perthshire is a beautiful place to live, we have been enjoying walking and discovering the ever-changing landscape, usually with our two dogs in tow! Being close to my family is such a joy and I now have the opportunity to spend so much more time with them. I do need a city hit sometimes so visiting my son Harry in London is always fun as well as catching up with friends in Glasgow where I was brought up. I love words and have read for as long as I can remember. I am the chair of the Birnam Book festival Committee and am having great fun with that. I also have a passion for photography. I find it very calming to see our world in a different way, connecting people and telling their stories, and I go to exhibitions as often as I can. Following a varied and extensive career in the NHS, I wanted to get involved in something really meaningful where I could make a difference and continue to learn and grow personally, which is why I am very excited to be working with the Corbenic Community.

More than 50 years ago, I began my engineering studies at university in Edinburgh. That gave me a lifelong passion for analysing problems and finding practical solutions that work. I enjoyed an amazing 17-year career with a global technology company, acquiring many new skills as I travelled the world extensively and had a wonderful opportunity to work with brilliant people from many different cultures. It was truly an education in its own right. Later, I returned to Scotland where several senior roles in private and public sector organisations added a wide range of business skills to my experience before I retired in 2019. I was also a founding director of Space Scotland where I served for a period of three years. Our daughter Kirsten started at Ochil Tower School in 1987 at the age of 6 – my first introduction to Camphill. She moved to Camphill Blair Drummond when she was 18 and joined day service at Corbenic in 2015. Throughout that time, I became fascinated by the Camphill ethos and volunteered my services as a trustee on several Camphill boards. I now serve on the Corbenic board of trustees, chair the Corbenic Community Shop & Café board of directors and also serve on the Camphill Central Scotland Trust. I feel privileged to be able to bring my skills and experience to support the leadership team as they create a bright future for Corbenic.

Having retired a few years ago as a former Director of an NHS Board, it was the culmination of around forty years of public service. A Business Studies graduate and CIPFA qualified accountant, I have held several leadership roles across the public sector in four local authorities, a health board, community health partnership and health and social care partnerships. These roles have encompassed public finance and accountancy, commissioning, strategic planning, operational leadership, and transformation. I led the very first ever health and social care partnership in Scotland and led the creation of the first formal health and social care integration organisations across Tayside. A Dundonian at heart, I have lived with my wife and family in Dunkeld and Birnam for over thirty-two years and have always been aware of the Corbenic Camphill Community. As a family, we have previously provided family-based respite care for over twenty years supporting many children with special needs and families. I joined the board of trustees a few years ago and have been part of the transformation that has built Corbenic into the strong, increasingly sustainable, and forward-thinking organisation it is today. I feel that I can apply my knowledge and skills into strategic planning and transformation of health and care to take the community further forward on its journey.

I’ve worked in IT as a developer, manager, teacher, and author in academic and business settings. I have experience of working in different voluntary organisations over many years, including a religious community of which I was the founding chair and am still among the leaders. My son Ben has lived in Lochran House since 2014, when he was 21. Ben’s whole family are totally committed to his well-being and happiness, and we are hugely appreciative of the wonderful environment that Corbenic offers him and all the residents. I joined the board to pay back a debt of gratitude that we owe Corbenic. I hope that my experience, skills, and a parents’ perspective will enable me to make a useful contribution. As well as a general focus on care and support, I’m particularly interested in finding ways to further improve and support communication with and between Corbenic families.

Andy and I and our 2 girls moved to Aberfeldy 9 years ago from London, in time for our eldest daughter to start P1 and for Andy to return to his beloved Scotland. I grew up in Surrey, living around the world from Uganda to Japan and feel blessed to now call Perthshire home. As a family we have loved getting to know Corbenic, attending events, enjoying the incredible poetry path and ofcourse the shop (the girls teachers received some stunning pottery for their end of year presents which they loved)… Throughout my life I have prioritised volunteering, from teaching around the world to supporting local charities and organising fundraisers and latterly Chairing the Parent Council at Breadalbane Academy. A busy life as a Mum, a business owner and Tech industry Talent Director in London plus a Coach, the time I have to volunteer I wanted to ensure would be dedicated to an organisation that truly are enriching lives and setting standards, this is what I found in Corbenic. Corbenics’ values very much match my own and the vision and talent found in every member of the community is outstanding, I had to say yes to the invite to join the Board. I am very excited to be part of Corbenic
