Ginger gives birth

Farmer Tanja had given up hope that Ginger would follow Pepper in producing piglets. However, shortly after Tanja left on holiday. there was a surprise for Ant, who was providing Farm cover.

Exactly 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days after the boar left, Ginger the Sow had given birth to piglets…

It has been an emotional roller coaster on Farm this week weeks. Farm cover, Ant has had a busy time, but managed to put together these updates:

“Ginger gave birth on Wednesday 7th October in morning, we found her giving birth to the last two piglets of 8 born (one sadly still born, one very small and not quite right, nestling in mums armpit, instead of suckling)”

“Some were tucked in small gap behind her and she was moving quite a lot giving birth so we quickly got them out of there!”

“Inquisitive and out the house on Day 1(briefly)!!..one beam of wood will not be enough to contain them! We set up the house with power for a heat lamp, and wood to give piglets a safe warm corner away from mum. Lots of cuddling!”

“Sadly on Friday morning mum wasn’t eating or getting up, so the vet was called out and she was treated for uterine infection with antibiotics.”

Thankfully, Ginger recovered quickly. She and the remaining six piglets are doing well
