Repairs begin on Corbenic Poetry Path boardwalk

New boards to tread

Work has begun on repairing a short wetland section of the Corbenic Poetry Path, between the pond and the moorland edge habitats.

The original boardwalk provided a dry path across the wetland area for a decade. However many feet and damp conditions catch up. The repairs are very timely.

The boardwalk allows visitors year-round access to a wetland ecosystem abundant with plants, insects, birds and the occasional otter.

The funding is from Perthshire based benefactors, and the work by local craftsman, Alan Robertson with help from residents and volunteers from the Estate Workshop.

The first job is removing the old boardwalk. This lifting and carrying task is one that the residents take in their stride. The new wooden boardwalk will have an anti-slip surface added.

The old larch struts are being used as habitat for insects and other invertebrates. The wood also provides sustenance for fungi and slime mold.
