About Us
There are places in this world that feel unique and special from the moment you set foot in them. Places that are an amalgamation of many nuanced and complex parts that create a whole that is much greater than those parts.On a short walk around Corbenic you will find yourself strolling through beautiful grounds with mature trees and heather-clad hillsides bordered by the meandering River Braan.
There are also many houses and buildings ranging from rustic workshops to contemporary homes, an old lodge, cottages and a walled garden. If your short walk is at dusk or at night, you will see almost every window awash with light, a sign of the many lives being lived within. These homes and buildings are all linked by well-trodden paths and roads, and of course there is the Poetry Path meandering around the outer bounds of the estate.Within any of the houses you will immediately sense a homeliness, with residents with learning disabilities who seem very much at home there, volunteers from all over the world, and staff who will be welcoming and professional.
Within the barns, workshops, gardens, fields, woods, horse riding arena, and farm, you will meet adults with learning disabilities and more international volunteers, all engaged in meaningful work and activities, learning new skills, and supported by workshop leaders. These workshop leaders are skilled in support and care provision and each also have their own specialisms be it pottery, horse care, woodworking, craft, baking bread, landscaping, and so much more.
There is a good chance that on your walk you will find the whole community gathered together for one of the many multicultural festivals or celebrations that are part of the annual program and further promote and support the sense of community and celebrate diversity.
Corbenic is a registered Care Home and Day Service. But, it is a care home and day service like no other where adults with learning disabilities get to experience a variety of life opportunities, and are supported to live life to the fullest. This is what is at the heart of the unique and very special place that is Corbenic.
